Just Be Authentic

Read Time: 2 min

Be true to you. Be authentic. Be yourself.

Blah blah blah.

Yeah, I’ve heard this all before but what does that mean? Who doesn’t want to be authentic?

I guess sometimes we get caught up in the latest thing.

I want to be like that.

I want to be successful.

I want to model success.

However, it’s important to keep clarity on who you are… when you are just you. No lights. No fancy script. Just you.

This past week I got to hear myself as a guest on the Fight: Heart, Body, and Soul Podcast with Trent Childers. Awesome! I was interviewed by Trent a few weeks back, and it recently aired. Boom! Check me out. I’m on a podcast! High Five!

It was a great experience and an opportunity for me to be authentic by just being myself and answering questions from the heart.

One of my goals this year was to be consistent across all platforms. I want my blogs, interviews, and public speaking to be the same vibration. I want to have fun and just be me.

After listening to the interview, I am confident I’m meeting my goal.

Here are three strategies on how to be more authentic.

1. Magic Mirror
Get to know yourself. Get in front of the mirror. Hey hey, wazzuppp?

What do you like about the world and your lifestyle? Focus in on the things you vibe with the most. Now express it in your actions. Seriously, go out into the world and express who you are.

2. Be Vulnerable
Own your limitations and setbacks. Owning it doesn’t mean you have to keep them long-term. For now, use them to your advantage. It’s part of your story, and it adds to your unique character.

Check out one of my previous blog posts, Facing My Biggest Fear, to see an example of vulnerability.

3. Embrace the Sandwich
Don’t be afraid to break the rules when it feels right. In my podcast interview, I was asked a question about my back story. I felt inspired to take a few minutes first to talk about a sandwich I was digging on. It was random and it was a lot of fun. I was simply in the moment, and I leaned into it.

It turns out being authentic isn’t as hard as it seems. It’s as easy as just being you… if you are willing to allow yourself to be you. Boom!

Check out this great quote from a poem allegedly written by Charlie Chaplin. Yes, that Charlie Chaplin. I’ll share the full poem in the next blog post.

As I began to love myself, I found that anguish and emotional suffering are only warning signs that I was living against my own truth. Today, I know, this is AUTHENTICITY.”

We are all a little crazy in our unique way. What is your crazy that makes you authentic? Please share in the comments.

  1. Awesome and uplifting interview. I feel that if those listening would come away with the same feeling. Keep up the high energy and positive messages

  2. I always tell people that I might be crazy, but I’m not stupid. I’m not quite a full-on “crazy cat lady,” but I do love my “fur kids.”

What I like to tell people when I do something unexpected is that it’s those little “contradictions” that make me so fascinating.

That’s my story, and I’m stickin’ with it!! 😀

  3. Jace this is such a wonderful inspiring post. I loved your interview with Trent, and your sandwich is on my cooking list. Thanks for inspiring us!
